Get Involved

There are 3 necessary components to the Resource Redistribution Ministry: providers, receivers, and volunteers.

To further our mission of providing edible food to more food-challenged people in our community, we are actively recruiting new organizations and individuals to fill these roles.

Providers

Providers are the wholesale and retail producers or grocers with perishable, edible food that is thrown away following a pre-determined shelf life. This food includes all varieties of fresh fruit and vegetables, bread and bakery goods, and other perishable, edible food.

For our ministry to increase its impact by feeding more hungry people in our community, we must glean more of the food that is being thrown out daily because it no longer can be sold, but is still good and safe to eat.

Receivers

Receivers are the churches, food pantries, senior housing communities and other community service organizations that serve “food insecure” populations.

By knowing a potential receiver’s refrigeration capabilities, how many people they feed and whether they are individuals or families, RRM can set them up almost immediately and begin a schedule for deliveries.

Volunteers

RRM volunteers are the hands and feet of God who pick-up food at the providers and distribute it to the receivers. This takes place 7 days a week every day of the year except when the providers are closed for holidays.

Volunteers work in teams (drivers and helpers) with two teams making pick-ups and deliveries each day based on schedules set up a month in advance. For many volunteers, it means a 2 to 3-hour weekly commitment with an immeasurable result and impact in our community.

In just the Mid-South area, it is estimated that there are over 390,000 food-starved people. It is believed that RRM redistributed food feeds about 25,000 people each week. This fresh fruit and produce make a healthy difference in people’s lives.

These are people who live all around us. Low-income working families with children. Senior citizens with limited financial resources. Homeless people living day-to-day. Disabled people out of work and with limited benefits. Plus, there are many more who are impacted by the pandemic.

In order to continue feeding hungry people by redistributing this perishable, edible food, RRM has an ongoing need for funds to maintain and expand the transportation and logistics capabilities that currently redistributes one half of a million pounds of fresh food annually. We need your donations to cover the costs of gasoline, insurance, and maintenance of our two-vehicle fleet of refrigerated vans. And funds are needed to grow this fleet as more food providers come on board.

RRM has no brick and mortar overhead expenses. And the RRM administration and workforce (over 50 persons) is made up entirely of non-paid volunteers. Resource Redistribution Ministry is a 501c3 non-profit organization. So, every dollar you donate is tax deductible and goes towards getting food to people in need.
